In loving memory of Thomas G. Johansen: 1955-2022

Thomas G. Johansen, 66, lost his brave battle to cancer on March 24, 2022. He was born in Battle Ground, Washington, and resided in the Battle Ground/Hockinson area his entire life. 

During his years attending Battle Ground High, (1970-1974) Thomas was a star basketball player and received a two-year basketball scholarship to Grays Harbor College. He then transferred to the University of Washington, where he graduated with a master’s degree in architecture in 1986. Thomas devoted his life to pursuing his dream of designing and building. Throughout his career, he worked for LSW Architects, Farrell Johansen Architects and ESD. 

Clark County is fortunate to be home to numerous buildings designed by him including Tukes Valley Elementary, Hockinson High School and buildings at Clark College, School for the Blind and Vancouver Public Schools. 

Thomas loved family and animals and was a friend to all. He belonged to Lewis River Rotary, and enjoyed boating, camping, football and the outdoors. Thomas is survived by his wife Judy; son Kyle; stepdaughters Heidi and Heather; granddaughter Alice; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-laws, and sister Linda. He was preceded in death by his mother Florence; father Howard; sisters Sheryl and Glynne; brothers Gary and William; and aunt Margaret. A celebration of life will be held on April 23, from noon to 4 p.m., at 16316 NE 167 Ave., Brush Prairie.
