IQ Credit Union gifts $2,000 to Camp Hope of Southwest Washington

IQ Credit Union recently granted a gift of $2,000 to Camp Hope of Southwest Washington. The gift will directly support campers.

Seventy percent of Camp Hope attendees are on free and reduced lunch programs.

“Basically, that covers our supplies and our food for one of our three day camps for 40 kids, which helps us make the camp affordable to others,” Camp Hope of Southwest Washington Executive Director Karen Phillips said. “Two thirds of our campers are on scholarships and are eligible for free and reduced lunches, so something that we do is we provide them with a healthy lunch every day, and so their gift helps us do that.”

The $2,000 from IQ Credit Union comes from an employee-created grant program. Employees of the credit union vote on which nonprofits will be recipients of their grants, Phillips explained.

Along with food, the $2,000 will also go toward sports equipment, games and art project supplies.

“We are a hidden gem across the river from Lewisville Park and we’re open for summer camps. We’re open to rent. Groups can rent our camp. And we are developing an outdoor school program,” Phillips added.

Phillips also said they appreciate the support from the community and the many donors that “make it possible for us to enrich the lives of youth.”

Camp Hope of Southwest Washington has a donation page on its website. Donations are always welcome and greatly appreciated.

Phillips said the mission is to enrich the lives of youth with outdoor-based education, adventure and fun during their summer camps.

Upcoming camps include a CSI and STEM day camp that begins on Aug. 7 and runs until Aug. 11. An outdoor theater day camp will start on Aug. 15 and run through Aug. 17. Lastly, an outdoor art and activities day camp will run Aug. 21-23.
