Letter to the editor: Former mayor is right on Battle Ground growth struggles

Posted

After reading former Mayor Phillip Johnson’s article, I cannot keep my fingers from the keyboard.

He is so “right on.”

We moved here five years ago to this perfect small-town atmosphere only to discover that there was a building frenzy going on. Apartment buildings with no thought for resident parking, let alone garages or other public services.

We counted 12 school buses on Eaton waiting for the light signal at 503. This happens every school morning. No way for residents driving from a new townhouse development to enter onto Eaton to head west (they can make a turn right and go to another street) until the signal allows all traffic to cross or turn.

Turning into the school on Eaton heading east is not easy, either. Traffic some mornings is backed up to the South Parkway signal. We time our departure so as not to be caught in this traffic jam. Others are not so lucky as they have to get to work.

First Street in Battle Ground needs major repair, as does Highway 20 heading north after crossing 503 at Eaton to the stop sign and making a right on Highway 20.
