Donald Trump’s first significant action after assuming the presidency in 2016 was to push through a tax cut for the top 1%, our billionaires and wealthy corporations.
This tax cut will expire in December 2025. Republicans are desperate to extend these cuts, but it won’t be easy. In order to keep them in place, cuts will need to be made elsewhere to make up for the lost revenue.
The “elsewhere” choices are limited. They won’t cut the military budget, so on the chopping block are cuts of $500 billion to Medicare, $800 billion to Medicaid and huge cuts to the food stamp program. As a result of these cuts, it is estimated that 8.6 million people will lose their health insurance.
I don’t understand this at all. How can making people sicker and poorer be a positive contribution to our nation’s future?
