U.S. Rep. Maria Gluesenkamp Perez, requested funding for 15 infrastructure and utility projects in Washington’s third district last week, with two projects benefiting Battle Ground and Ridgefield.
Battle Ground and Ridgefield are currently seeking grants for two infrastructure projects, and Gluesenkamp Perez recommended they receive federal funding.
Battle Ground 92nd Avenue Sewer Extension Project, $2 million
Gluesenkamp Perez requested $2 million be awarded for Battle Ground’s 92nd Avenue Sewer Expansion Project, extending the city’s sewer network system to support developable land in its northwest district. A news release stated the project would provide sewer infrastructure to 595 acres of land, opening more industrial, commercial and residential growth for the city. The requested funds would pay for the design and construction of a parallel force main and to mitigate sewer flow to its new 92nd Avenue pump station.
Ridgefield Kennedy Farms Well Project, $1.5 million
Additionally, Gluesenkamp Perez requested funding for two new source wells in Ridgefield. In light of Ridgefield’s rapid population growth, increasing the capacity for its water system is crucial, the news release stated. The grant would fund two new source wells to support 15,000 residents and ensure the local fire station will not drain the system’s water in an emergency. Each well will provide 300 gallons of water per minute, according to the news release. She requested $1.5 million for the two wells. Ridgefield’s water demand is expected to exceed its current capacity around late 2026.
“Across southwest Washington, I’ve heard from community members and local leaders about much-needed projects that have the potential to transform our rural economies, support public health and safety, and get resources to those who need them most. In the coming months, I’m going to fight to bring our tax dollars home for these investments and work to ensure they have the greatest impact in our communities,” Gluesenkamp Perez stated in the news release.
