Nu-Life Wellness Center has a variety of services to offer its clients like chiropractic care, a red light therapy bed, foot detoxes, nutritional response testing and massages.
Karen Stevens-Barnes has been a chiropractor since 2016. Her favorite part of the job is seeing the lifelong changes she makes in people’s lives through readjustments.
“I’m a little bit different in that I don’t snap, crackle and pop people,” Stevens-Barnes said. “I ask your body questions and your body tells me what to do.”
Her chiropractic style is gentle and interactive, Stevens-Barnes said. It doesn’t include twisting the patient around.
“I have one patient who is an avid hiker and he comes in once a month and he just told me this morning, ‘you’ve been keeping me hiking,’” Stevens-Barnes said earlier this month.
Throughout her life, Stevens-Barnes said chiropractors were the only doctors that were able to help. She noted other doctors wanted to put her on opioids for pain management.
According to the Cleveland University of Kansas City, “Recent research has demonstrated that those who used chiropractic had a 64% lower chance of receiving an opioid prescription compared to non-chiropractic users, and the adjusted likelihood of filling a prescription for an opioid was 55% lower among recipients of chiropractic care.”
Later in life, Stevens-Barnes wanted to help people as she looked for a new career, so she applied and was accepted into a chiropractic school.
Along with chiropractic services, Nu-Life has a red light therapy bed, which Stevens-Barnes said is a jack-of-all-trades.
“Red light therapy is all based on different frequencies, so we can change it to whether it’s removing inflammation, if it’s supporting organs and if it’s helping reduce nerve pain,” she said
The red light therapy bed can be used by patients who are experiencing arthritis, neuropathy or inflammation.
Stevens-Barnes also has special training to provide care for newborn babies and pregnant women.
