An off-duty Ridgefield police officer was found deceased at the Ridgefield Marina on Monday, Nov. 25, according to a news release by the city.

Officer Colin Triber, 29, had been a member of the Ridgefield Police Department (RPD) since January 2024, the city stated. Prior to his service as a police officer, Triber served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a heavy helicopter crew chief and mechanic.

According to the Clark County Medical Examiners Office, Triber’s manner of death was listed as a suicide and the cause of death a self-caused perforating gunshot wound to the head.

“We are heartbroken. We ask that the public and press give the family and the Ridgefield Police Department the privacy to grieve in this difficult time,” Ridgefield Police Chief Cathy Doriot said in the release.

According to Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency (CRESA) call logs, emergency services were dispatched to 5 W. Mill Street, the Ridgefield Marina boat dock, at 1:16 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, for a psychiatric/abnormal behavior/suicide attempt and then again at 1:43 p.m. to the same address for a suicidal subject.

Following standard protocol, the Ridgefield Police Department has turned the investigation over to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. RPD offices will be closed until further notice, however 24/7 patrol is continuing, the release stated.

A GoFundme titled “Honoring Colin: Support His Loved Ones” has raised $16,080 from 128 donations as of Friday, Nov. 29.

Kelli Curl, the GoFundme organizer, stated in an update on the GoFundme on Thanksgiving, “We are deeply moved and incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support our family has received following Colin’s passing this week. While this Thanksgiving is far from what we ever imagined, we are deeply comforted by the kindness and generosity surrounding us.”
