Southbound lane closure near North Fork Lewis River I-5 bridge planned for Wednesday

Those traveling southbound on Interstate 5 near Woodland at the Clark and Cowlitz county lines should plan ahead for delays and additional travel times Wednesday.

On July 26, Washington State Department of Transportation’s bridge maintenance crews will close the right lane on southbound I-5 approaching the southbound span of the North Fork Lewis River Bridge, the department announced. The closure will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. between mileposts 21.49 and 19.71.

Department crews recently discovered a crack in a section of the steel beam that supports the underside of the bridge deck, according to the department’s announcement. To ensure the safety of travelers and keep the I-5 corridor open, crews will make the necessary repairs underneath the bridge, requiring a lane closure.

WSDOT asks travelers to exercise caution through the work zone. Travelers are asked to have patience, obey advanced warning signs and look for instructions from flagging and road crew personnel.
