The Woodland Corner Store & Deli earned the top spot for sandwiches and second place for pizza in the “Best of Southwest Washington” awards for the greater Longview area.
Residents voted for the Woodland Corner Store & Deli as having the “Best Sandwiches in Southwest Washington” in the Best of Southwest Washington contest in 2024 and again in 2025 with the online community vote, held by Flyways Markets. Results were announced in May.
The Woodland Corner Store started its sandwich offerings six months after opening, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Woodland Corner Store owner Anthony Kasziewicz said the community rallied behind the store, supporting its operations throughout the challenging period.
“From the beginning, we listened to the customers and what they wanted and basically built upon that, and I think that combined with our customer service is what made us what we are today,” he said. “And that is the fact that, you know, we are here for the customers flat out.”
Kasziewicz also said that his store and deli is not just a retail front, but it is a part of the community, highlighting community donations. The store has donated sandwiches and funds to local city and school events, including state-level competitions for Woodland High School’s football and cheer teams. Kasziewicz, a U.S. Air Force combat veteran, also offers discounts to service members, teachers, police officers, firefighters and veterans.
Kasziewicz cherished the community for its support of his sandwiches.
The golden sandwich, also known as “The Corner Club,” is the local favorite and most common choice. It is a club sandwich that stands out from the rest of the clubs in the world with Kasziewicz’s creativity.
He tossed out the middle slice of bread to cut carbs and also enhance the flavor on the palate of the eater. He utilizes Boar’s Head Swiss cheese, OvenGold turkey, Black Forest ham and bacon, all complemented by a homemade Italian mayonnaise.
“It’s a tall sandwich, but it’s not so much overpowering on the bread that you actually taste the ingredients,” he said. “Our sandwiches, when they were designed, we had a couple of chefs involved and myself, they’re designed so that when you eat it, the flavors actually impact your palate differently.”
The Woodland Corner Store’s sandwiches include homemade sauces and local products, including Boar’s Head meat and cheeses, Kalama sourdough bread and locally produced vegetables.
Coming up on six years in business, Kasziewicz said the store produces an average of 40 to 60 sandwiches every day, but the pizza has surpassed the operation with over 100 made daily.
“Our pizza is built upon the Kalama sourdough pizza dough,” he said. “And what’s cool about that is Kalama sourdough just specifically made a focaccia bread that they only made for us. It’s a sourdough focaccia.”
The pizza is also headlined with a family recipe sauce that goes back to the homeland of Italy, Kasziewicz said.
