From ilani to Amboy Territorial Days Park, classic cars and motorcycles came together on Saturday, Aug. 26 to benefit a veteran’s equine therapy program.
“The goal of these services partnered with horses is to support service members [to] heal from the debilitating impacts of trauma,” said Kara Seibert, Healing Animal Partners program director with Lifeline Connections, in an email. “PTSD causes significant disruption in a person’s ability to live a full and meaningful life, a life that every veteran deserves. These services help veterans find their way back from trauma.”
The Windhaven Ride for Veterans was fully escorted and featured motorcycles, classic cars and hotrods. The ride started at the ilani Casino Resort and ended at the Territorial Park in Amboy. The event was hosted by the American Legion, TumTum Post 168. For the second year, the Windhaven Veterans Program is the recipient of the fundraising efforts, Seibert stated. Last year the event raised $10,385, and the funds supported 11 veterans in the program.
“To put that into perspective, we have 32,800 veterans living in Clark County, of which 12.9% may experience the debilitating impact of PTSD,” Seibert said. “That means there are potentially 4,264 veterans with PTSD needing support in our community.”
