The Woodland Beavers softball squad fought their way to a top-six spot in the 2A state tournament as the No. 11 seed while the Prairie Falcons lost their first game of day two, ending their season short of a top-six spot.

Woodland Beavers

The Beavers began their state journey at Carlon Park in Selah as an underdog facing six-seeded East Valley High School. The Beavers’ offense exploded for a 16-8 win to move on to face the eventual runnerup Port Angeles Roughriders. The Beavers saw their long shot title hopes end in an 8-1 loss to Port Angeles, sending the Beavers to a third game on Friday, May 23.

Now in the losers bracket, Woodland found themselves again in a spot as the underdog as far as initial tournament seeding goes. The Beavers beat 8-seeded Franklin Pierce High School 13-8 to conclude day one and continue their journey toward the third/fourth place game.

Woodland opened up day two on Saturday, May 24, finally having the better seed in their 6-2 win over 12-seed Ephrata High School. The Beavers then faced the tournament’s top seed in the last six, essentially the losers bracket semifinals to reach the third/fourth place game. Woodland saw their season come to a close against Tumwater High School in a 4-2 loss.

Prairie Falcons

After coming up short of the District 3/4 title, the Falcons were given the No. 9 seed for the 3A State Tournament at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.

The Falcons did not have the start they were hoping for as they lost 10-0 to the eventual state runnerup, 8-seeded Garfield High School, on day one, Friday, May 23. In the losers bracket, the Falcons fought their way to three more games.

Prairie first beat Roosevelt High School 4-2, then No. 3 seed Enumclaw High School, 8-5, to conclude day one.
The Falcons’ season came to a close early on day two, Saturday, May 24, with a 14-3 loss to Inglemoor High School.
