Committee members surprised local volunteer Tyler Castle with the 2024 Battle Ground Citizen of the Year Award last week during his monthly volunteer cleanup along Whipple Creek.

Castle is a frequent volunteer across multiple Clark County organizations, including North County Community Food Bank, Lewis River Mobile Food Bank, Rocksolid Community Teen Center, Battle Ground Lake State Park and more, a press release by the Battle Ground Citizen of the Year Committee stated.

“I will use this honor to help continue to make a difference and bring more groups together to make a bigger impact,” Castle said after receiving the award.

A ceremony to honor Castle will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, at Prairie Tavern, located at 14925 NE Caples Road, Brush Prairie. He will also be honored on Saturday, July 19, at the annual Battle Ground Harvest Days Parade, featuring a ceremony by the Portland Royal Rosarians, the press release stated.

The annual Battle Ground Citizen of the Year award is awarded to those who exemplify community volunteerism. Nominations are made by the community, and a distinguished individual, couple or group is selected by the Battle Ground Citizen of the Year Committee.
