Earlier this month, the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) awarded the City of Battle Ground the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ending on Dec. 31, 2022. It was the City’s 21st consecutive honor.

The certificate of achievement recognizes Battle Ground for “demonstrating a spirit of transparency and full disclosure in its 2022 annual comprehensive financial report,” according to a news release. The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

“I would like to express my gratitude to Finance Director Megan Lowery and her team as we congratulate them on this significant achievement,” City Manager Erin Erdman said in the release. “This award reflects the city’s commitment to transparency and accountability to our taxpayers, reinforcing the stable financial foundation on which our city is able to thrive.”

The GFOA began its awards program in 1945 with the aim of encouraging local governments to exceed the minimum requirements of accounting principles. The association sought to promote the preparation of comprehensive annual financial reports that reflect “transparency, full disclosure and the spirit of accountability.”
