Battle Ground Lions Club sorts eyeglasses for charity

Posted

Battle Ground Lions Club members recently sorted eyeglasses to donate as part of the organization’s effort to improve eyesight for the visually impaired worldwide. The glasses will be sent to the Northwest Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center and be distributed worldwide.

“In many parts of the world, millions of people suffer from vision impairment and lack access to even basic eye care services. For some, a pair of glasses is the difference between being able to work, attend school or lead an independent life,” a Battle Ground Lions Club press release stated.

Volunteers gathered at club members Steve and Shelley Staudinger’s home to sort eyeglasses into several categories, including bifocals and readers, before sending them to the recycling center, the press release stated.

The sorted eyeglasses will be sent to the recycling center, where they will be inspected, washed and tested with a lensometer. The eyeglasses will then be distributed to individuals in remote and developing countries across the world, the press release stated.
