Rylind Simpson, the leader in the clubhouse for the Battle Ground Tigers varsity golf team, has lived and breathed golf the entire offseason to hit big goals in the high school golf world.
Every day Simpson can be found with a golf club in hand.
“I’ve been working every single day at the range and just playing a lot. I try to play three times a week, but I go to the range every day, chip and putt every day. [I] just really try and dial my game in so I can perform,” he said.
Simpson said he hopes to land a spot on a college golf roster after he graduates from Battle Ground High School. Beforehand, he is striving to win the Clark County Cup at Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, hosted by King’s Way Christian School. The Clark County Cup, Oct. 7, will spotlight the best high school golfers in the county with the top two players from each school eligible to compete.
After the regular season concludes this fall, Simpson said he wants to place well at the state high school golf tournament, which takes place in the spring.
From tee to green, Simpson said he feels like his irons and putting have been his strong suit this year.
“I’d like to work more on my driver, and [my] three-wood drives have been pretty solid lately, but it can always get better and that’s just something I can work on,” Simpson said.
On Thursday, Sept. 12, the Tigers struggled against Camas High School, but they look to bounce back on Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Tri-Mountain Golf Course in Ridgefield against Mountain View High School.
