City of Ridgefield announces Costco opening traffic plan

Posted

As Ridgefield’s new Costco prepares to open, the City of Ridgefield advises drivers to consider alternative routes to avoid Pioneer Street this weekend.

The Costco Warehouse will open at 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29. Customers can access the store via North 56th Place, North 53rd Place and Pioneer Canyon Drive. A temporary traffic signal will be installed at 53rd and Pioneer to manage traffic over the weekend.

The city’s traffic plan includes several measures to ease congestion including:

• Certified flaggers to direct and stage traffic

• Advance traffic warning through temporary signs

• Continuous monitoring of traffic queues

• A temporary parking lot for Costco employees and overflow

An alternative emergency access point for first responders
Flaggers will guide vehicles into the main or overflow parking lots to keep traffic moving smoothly on Pioneer Street. Ridgefield city staff anticipate heavier traffic on Pioneer Street during Thursday evening and around noon Saturday, Aug. 31. Drivers should consider alternate routes on Thursday and Friday, especially. The traffic management plan was developed with the help of the Costco project team, Ridgefield Police, Ridgefield Public Works, Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue, Washington State Patrol and the Washington state Department of Transportation.
