County seeks retail, community sites for household battery disposal program

Clark County Public Health is seeking retail and community sites for free household battery recycling drop-offs. The drop-off sites provide a safe disposal option for household batteries, which can pose significant fire risks, a news release by Clark County stated.

Several drop-off sites opened across Clark County after Public Health and Waste Connections of Washington launched a household battery disposal program last year. Public Health’s expansion of the program will increase accessibility to safe battery disposal and recycling, the news release stated.

Participation in the drop-off program is free for eligible sites, which include retail stores, campuses, community centers and other locations publicly accessible with on-site staff. Participating sites receive battery recycling kits with instructions, signage and pre-paid shipping labels after completing a 10-minute training course, the news release stated.

Sites interested in joining the program can contact the Clark County Solid Waste team at solidwaste@clark.wa.gov.
