Letter to the Editor: Battle Ground leaders should consider residents before making decisions

Posted

Editor,

Congratulations to the residents of Ridgefield. Pickleball is being considered for your community. I read with interest that the leaders of your city are taking into consideration the noise involved with the game. They stated decibel levels being a major reason not to locate the courts in residential areas.

Battle Ground should take a clue from Ridgefield. Pickleball is also coming to our town but seemingly with no consideration for the citizens or even a brief understanding of what pickleball is. The six new courts at Kiwanis Park will be 50 feet outside my bedroom.

Not once did Battle Ground leaders talk to residents that will be directly affected by the new courts. We didn’t know about the changes coming to our park until it was a done deal and we read about it in the Reflector.

I’m glad to see Ridgefield residents will benefit from thoughtful placement of their new courts. It is a fun game that can be enjoyed by all.

I hope Battle Ground starts being more thoughtful in the future decisions that will have such a major impact on the residents they serve.
