Letter to the editor: Ridgefield is failing its senior citizens

Posted

I was excited about going to the Meals on Wheels starting up in Ridgefield. I have been trying to find activities for seniors. The Nazarene Church in Ridgefield has kindly given a space for this luncheon. I walked into the amazing, large gymnasium. Three tables were set in a row and were dwarfed by the space. Nobody was there to say hello. One table was full with guests that didn’t acknowledge me. A lone lady sat at the other table, who was very nice, and we talked. We were finally joined by three others. I asked about senior activities. One lady said the town of Ridgefield was poor. Her only input was two new pickleball courts. At 80 years old, I don’t think that’s for me, but my reply was city employees have new digs and are getting a new police station. They also have mega facilities at the middle school for activities including baseball and youth activities. Give me a break. Seniors are on the short list, I mean at the bottom of the list.

There was someone warming the lunch and no other help. It will not bring me back. Ridgefield is failing its seniors.
