Port of Ridgefield receives $1.2 million for electric vehicle chargers

Last week, The Washington state Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced that the Port of Ridgefield will receive $1.2 million to install electric vehicle charging stations. The Port of Ridgefield is one of 11 ports approved of the first set of state grants included in the Port Electrification Grant Program funded by the Climate Commitment Act. WSDOT officials expect these EV charging projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the state by 140,000 metric tons over the next 10 years.

“We are pleased to support cleaner air quality for those who live and work near the ports,” Jason Biggs, director of WSDOT’s Rail, Freight and Ports Division said in a news release. “This program helps ports switch from using fossil fuels, creates a better work environment for port staff and ensures nearby neighborhoods are healthier places to live.”
