Ridgefield Costco opening, Pioneer Street developments to impact traffic

Posted

Drivers entering and leaving Ridgefield can expect traffic delays by late August.

The new Ridgefield Costco, located north of Pioneer Canyon Drive, is set to open on Thursday, Aug. 29. This opening will take place ahead of the commencement of a major widening project on Pioneer Street, designed to handle the anticipated traffic increase.

To manage the expected congestion, the city will install a temporary traffic signal at the intersection of 53rd Place and Pioneer Street. This signal will facilitate full turns from all directions, helping to ease traffic flow. Shoppers heading to the new Costco can access the site via two routes off Pioneer Street — one on North 56th Place and another on North 53rd Place through Pioneer Canyon Drive.

As part of the Pioneer Widening project, contractors will close a segment of Pioneer Street, from South 47th Avenue to North 53rd Place, in mid-September. The closure is scheduled to begin on the evening of Friday, Sept. 13, and continue through the morning of Monday, Sept. 16. During this period, a detour will be in place, directing drivers from South Royle Road to Wells Drive, then north on Timm Road to South Sixth Way, and finally north on 56th Place to reconnect with Pioneer Street. North 53rd Place will remain open, ensuring two ways in and out of the Ridgefield Costco via North 56th Place and North 53rd Place.

A second closure of Pioneer Street is expected in mid-October, with details to be announced two weeks in advance.
