Ridgefield Lions Club awards record $27,000 in scholarships

The Ridgefield Lions Club recently presented a record high $27,000 in scholarships to students in the area. 

The Ridgefield Lions Club provides scholarships each year to support post-secondary educational goals to students from the community who have graduated from Ridgefield High School, or other high schools as long as the student or their parents live within the Ridgefield School District, stated a news release.

Scholarships are awarded to students based on the philosophy of Lionism, “we serve,” along with an exhibition of exemplary standards of scholarship, citizenship and community service.

The 2023 scholarship recipients broken out by category include:

• Super Senior Scholarships: Cameron Jones, Dillon Kirksey and Liam Rapp each received $2,000

• Lions Scholarships: Claire Jones and Brianna Robbins each received $1,500; Ali Lindsay, Madeline Smith, Kaydree Sosky, Paige Stepaniuk and Madelyn Winter each received $1,000; Elizabeth Hutchinson, Elena Norquist (Cedar Tree) and Peyton Wise each received $500

• Hyatt Spudder Spirit Scholarship: Dillon Kirksey received $3,000



• Burkle Family Scholarship: Caige Sothern received $2,000

• Adkins Family Scholarship: Timothy Bradshaw (Cedar Tree) and Payton Cain each received $1,000 

• Starfish Scholarship: Cameron Jones and Liam Rapp each received $1,000

 Upper Division Scholarships: Malaki Katsuta received $1,000, while Hailee Gruber, Kyle Radosevich and Daniel Zimmer each received $500

All of the students attend Ridgefield High School unless noted. The Upper Division Scholarship recipients are already enrolled in a college or university.

The Ridgefield Lions have awarded over $300,000 worth of scholarships over the past 30 years to students from the Ridgefield community, according to the release.
