Ridgefield Mayor Matt Cole announced on Wednesday, April 30, he will seek re-election to the Ridgefield City Council, pleading to continue guiding the city and focusing on what he calls “smart growth, strong community and a collaborative approach to leadership.”
“Ridgefield is growing — and our growth has vision,” Cole stated in his announcement. “Over the past three-plus years, I’ve worked hard to ensure that our city remains welcoming, vibrant and thoughtfully planned. I’m super proud of the progress we’ve made, and I’m excited to keep building a community that reflects the best of who we are.”
Cole was elected to his city council seat in 2022 and was appointed as mayor in January 2025.
Under his leadership, Ridgefield has pursued development projects to improve livability while expanding parks, public services and economic opportunities. Cole credits these outcomes to collaboration and open communication with residents.
“I see my role within both Ridgefield and across Southwest Washington as a consensus builder working to unite different perspectives and finding common ground on tough issues,” he said. “I’ve seen firsthand how powerful collaboration can be — when we work toward a shared vision, that’s when we achieve our greatest results.”
If reelected, Cole said he will prioritize continued smart growth, expanded outreach through the city’s W.A.V.E. (Welcoming, Active, Vibrant, Engaged) initiative, improved access to parks and green spaces, and support for local businesses.
“We’re at a critical moment in Ridgefield’s story,” Cole added. “The decisions we make today will shape the next generation of this city. As we near the completion of our 20-year Comprehensive Plan Update, I am excited for the vision this community has for itself, and honored to play an integral role in that process.”
In addition to his public service, Cole brings a background in business and military leadership. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve as an expeditionary intelligence officer and worked for two decades in marketing and organizational leadership roles. He currently serves on the Urban County Policy Board, the Regional Transportation Council, and holds advisory roles with Ridgefield Main Street and the Ridgefield Art Association.
