Ridgefield School District honors February employees and students of the month

The Ridgefield School District (RSD) honored its February 2025 employees and students of the month on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the regular board of directors meeting. Two employees and seven students were recognized.

Nick Maudlin, school counselor, Union Ridge Elementary School

Since joining Union Ridge Elementary School in the 2023-2024 school year, Nick Maudlin has become an indispensable part of the school community. His kindness, dedication and leadership are evident in his work with students, staff and families. He fosters strong connections with students, providing support and guidance while maintaining a positive presence in the school, an RSD news release stated. When not teaching social emotional learning, Maudlin helps facilitate the warm and welcoming environment that the school district strives to provide.

Kendra Martin, secretary of facilities and administrative services

Kendra Martin is the welcoming face of the district, always greeting students, staff and visitors with warmth and a willingness to help. Martin’s workday pulls her in multiple directions, but she is always willing to assist with any questions or concerns, the news release stated. Amid all her responsibilities, she remains patient, attentive and dedicated to ensuring smooth operations. Her contributions make a significant difference in the school district, and her positive attitude is appreciated by all who interact with her.

Justen Olsen, pre-K, Early Learning Center

Justen Olsen is a joy to have in the Early Learning Center Pre-K program. He embodies inclusivity in the classroom and is the sweetest friend to all his peers. “His humor has everyone excited to hear what he has to say, and his laughter brightens up our entire day,” his teacher stated in the news release. Olsen is an excellent role model to his peers, which earned him Student of the Month at the Early Learning Center.

Jayleen Alvarado, first grade, Union Ridge Elementary School

Jayleen "JJ" Alvarado is a kindhearted and hardworking student who leads by example in her Union Ridge Elementary School classroom. She greets everyone with a smile and a friendly hello, fostering a welcoming environment. “She stays resilient even when faced with challenging tasks and isn't afraid to take risks,” her teacher stated in the news release. Alvarado listens attentively and encourages others to do their best, which makes a lasting impact in her classroom.

Elle Christensen, third grade, South Ridge Elementary School

Elle Christensen exemplifies a strong work ethic and attention to detail in all her assignments at South Ridge Elementary School. She fosters an inclusive and welcoming environment, ensuring her classmates feel supported. “With her positive attitude and ever-present smile, she brightens our classroom and school and inspires her peers to do their best,” her teacher said in the news release. Christensen uplifts those around her and inspires others to do their best.



Eliza Mansfield, sixth grade, Sunset Ridge Intermediate School

Eliza Mansfield is a dedicated student whose kindness, respect and perseverance make her a classroom leader at Sunset Ridge Intermediate School. She readily helps classmates, demonstrating patience and a natural ability to teach. “She never gives up! Many students benefit from Eliza as well during group work and projects. She has that gift of teaching, not just giving answers,” her teacher stated in the news release. Mansfield’s love for academics bolsters herself and her peers, which contributes to a rich learning environment.

Ocoee Fey, seventh grade, View Ridge Middle School

Ocoee Fey is an inquisitive and diligent student whose enthusiasm for learning is evident in every subject at View Ridge Middle School. She consistently seeks challenges and engages deeply in academic discussions. “Everything Ocoee does in class — every project, every assignment, every discussion — is excellent. She is an energetic and creative thinker who matches her considerable abilities with diligence and hard work,” history teacher David Jacobson stated in the news release. Fey’s academic dedication makes her an inspiration to her peers.

Jackie Bernard, 12th grade, Wisdom Ridge Academy

Jackie Bernard joined Wisdom Ridge Academy this school year and has excelled academically while embracing the flexibility the school offers. “Jackie combines strong intellectual capabilities with genuine kindness and a remarkable work ethic. What particularly stands out is Jackie’s desire for feedback, thoughtfully incorporating suggestions and continuously challenging themselves to reach new heights,” English teacher Stephanie Colantino stated in the news release. Outside of school, Bernard enjoys choir and recently earned a spot on the All-State Honor Choir. Their teachers are excited for them to flourish post-graduation.

Elijah Regino, 12th grade, Ridgefield High School

Elijah Regino is a creative and kindhearted student whose positivity shines in every aspect of his life. Whether through poetry, baking or performing on the football field, Regino brings energy and joy to those around him. His confidence has grown considerably over the past semester through his creative classes. “Elijah came into creative writing with a willingness to learn, but feeling unsure of his ability. Over the semester, his confidence and creativity have grown leaps and bounds!” creative writing teacher Katie Peery stated in the news release. His teachers see a bright future for Regino and appreciate the impact he has left on the school.
