Wildlife more visible at the refuge with fall weather

Posted

Visitors to the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge River S Unit last week may have left disappointed. Most eBird checklists highlighted between nine and 22 total bird species being spotted at the refuge, however a couple checklists submitted boasted the usual species diversity of around 50 avian varieties.

With the change of weather and fall migration ramping up, the majority of bird spotters and wildlife lovers will begin seeing more species frolic and flock the River S Unit. Birdcast estimates 511,100 birds crossed Clark County skies between Thursday, Sept. 12, and Friday, Sept. 13. The totals each night will stay consistently around 500,000 for much of this fall.
