Battle Ground entrepreneur sells boutique items

Stefanie Draper, an entrepreneur in Battle Ground, owns Baileymay’s Boutique, which has operated online since July 2021. She started selling her items in a section of Finishing Touch in the city in December of last year.

Draper felt compelled to open Baileymay’s to fulfill a need for female consumers in Battle Ground.

“Baileymay’s is a boutique store for women’s clothing,” said Draper. “I decided to start it because I just felt like there was something missing in Battle Ground for women’s fashion. It’s always been a passion of mine to have a boutique store that is for anybody.”

She said her products are targeted toward all women, “not just targeted toward western fashion or high-end fashion, but something for everybody.” Her products include hats, cardigans, candles and ponchos.

The name of the business comes from her dog, Baileymay, who is a 13-year-old corgi. She also has a corgi named Teddy, who is 12, and Hondo, who is a 6-year-old English bulldog.

“I grew up on a farm and I love animals, so it started off as something small where I was naming off items like a shirt or pair of jeans after my animals that I’ve had or my friend’s animals, but I eventually ran out of those,” Draper said. “Then I started naming them after people I know just to keep it fun and personal, instead of just calling it ‘the black flannel shirt.’”

One of her jackets, the Nikki, is named after one of her horses. It has a tan Aztec pattern, which she said comes from Nikki being a buckskin horse. There’s also the Macy, a shirt named after a miniature horse she owns.

Draper believes her variety and uniqueness of the items she sells is what separates Baileymay’s from its competition.

“When I bring something in, I don’t ever really restock it, so there’s only going to be two small, two medium, and two large items and once I ship it, it’s gone,” Draper said. “Once it’s gone, it’s gone for me, so just keeping things unique and one of a kind for people is what makes us stand out.”

Some of the purses she sells are also unique to Battle Ground. They feature a “western” style complete with real leather. She also has wool rancher hats, which are the most popular item she sells.

Draper said she connected with the owner of Finishing Touch, Dianna Perry, after she sold her items at a local event. The two “just hit it off,” Draper said. Her section of the store also took off because people were excited to buy the clothes, Draper said, so Perry allowed her to expand her section of the store to sell more items.

“It’s a really good working relationship and she has the biggest heart in the world,” Draper said of Perry.

Although she enjoys working with and sharing the storefront with Perry, Draper said she plans on opening her own store in the future.
