BGHS cadets honor the memory of those lost on 9/11

Wednesday marked the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Members of the Battle Ground High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps joined Clark County Fire District 3 at a Patriot Day ceremony.

Cadet corps commander Jack McAleer read a national decree before a color guard of cadets, and firefighters presented the colors and lowered the flag to half staff.



According to 911memorial.org, 2,977 people from 90 nations died Sept. 11, 2001, after 19 militant extremists from al-Qaeda hijacked four planes heading to various destinations. According to the site, 2,753 people died in New York City after two planes crashed into the World Trade Center towers; 184 people died when a plane crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia; and 40 people were killed on Flight 93, which crashed in an empty field in rural Pennsylvania after the passengers fought back.
