The Columbia Adventist Academy boys basketball team is headed to the state Class 1B basketball tournament for the second time in three years.

The Kodiaks defeated Moses Lake Christian 57-52 in overtime in a game played Feb. 23 at Eastmont High School in East Wenatchee. The win made Columbia Adventist the only team from Clark County, in all classifications, to advance to the state basketball tournament.

Columbia Adventist, located at 11100 NE 189th St. in Battle Ground, will play Sunnyside Christian in the state quarterfinals Thurs., Feb. 28 at the Spokane Arena. The Kodiaks, whose season record stands at 19-5, lost to Sunnyside Christian 57-44 recently in a district seeding game played in Yakima.

Columbia Adventist advanced to the state 1B tournament in 2011 with a 62-60 win over Lummi in regional action before losing two games at the Spokane Arena.

Here’s a look at how other area teams fared in postseason basketball play in the past week:

Prairie girls

For the first time since 1997, the Prairie girls basketball team will not be headed to Tacoma for the state basketball tournament. The Falcons had their streak of 15 consecutive trips to state come to an end when Bellevue outscored them 23-9 in the fourth quarter to defeat Prairie Feb. 22 in a game played at Mount Tahoma High School.

Prairie finished the season with a 21-4 overall record. The Falcons, who entered the postseason as the No. 1-ranked team in the Associated Press Class 3A girls state rankings, lost their regional seeding game 68-42 to third-ranked Wilson on Feb. 18. Bellevue was ranked No. 5 in the state AP poll.

Prairie advanced to the regional finals with a 66-33 win over Bonney Lake in a game played Feb. 15 at Columbia River High School.

Hockinson boys

Hockinson suffered a narrow 51-48 loss to Sequim in a Class 2A boys regional tournament game played Feb. 23 at Kent Meridian High School.

La Center boys

La Center’s first trek into the final 16 of the Class 1A boys basketball tournament ended with a 74-51 loss to Cedar Park Christian in a game played Feb. 23 at Mount Vernon.

The Wildcats (17-9) had advanced to that game with a 68-66 win over Hoquiam in a regional seeding game that earned La Center the No. 3 seed from District 4.

Woodland girls

Woodland lost for just the fourth time in Class 1A girls basketball action, dropping a 57-40 decision to Cascade Christian in a game played Feb. 22 at Mount Vernon. The Beavers had advanced to the game with a 56-43 win over Hoquiam in a regional seeding game played Feb. 16 at Chehalis.
