Department of Fish and Wildlife reminds hunters to complete education

As fall hunting season approaches, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is reminding prospective hunters to complete a mandatory education course before purchasing their first license.

Washington hunters born after Jan. 1, 1972, must complete a hunter education course prior to purchasing their first hunting license.

“The summer is a great time for new hunters to take a required hunter education course so they’re ready to go hunting this fall,” WDFW hunter education manager Dave Whipple said in a news release. “There can be limited availability for fall hunter education classes, so getting your required coursework done early helps set you up for success when the fall seasons get here.”

Courses are available in-person and in hybrid format. In-person classes consist of 15 hours of coursework and include a field portion. Hybrid courses include a self-paced online portion with a four- to six-hour field evaluation, the news release stated.
