Letter to the Editor: Letter about Kamala Harris filled with falsehoods

Posted

Editor,

Well, bless the First Amendment, which gives letter writer Barbara Dixon the right to spew her opinions about Kamala Harris’ platform (Aug. 28 Letters to the Editor), no matter how false and ludicrous her claims are. I’m glad you Reflector editors added the disclaimer that you do not “verify claims made in letters,” but I wonder how many folks read Dixon’s comments and nod their heads in ignorant agreement.

Dixon claimed that Harris would “eliminate all oil drilling.” False. “Force us to buy electric cars.” False. “Ban all oil and gas.” False. “Defund the police.” False. “Take away your guns.” False. “Eliminate cash bail.” False. “Let all the criminals out of prison.” False. “Mandate Medicare for all.” False; she proposed that in 2019, but it is not part of her current plans. “Provide free medical care for all the illegals.” False. “Eliminate detention centers.” False. “Provide taxpayer-funded rent, reparations and free college.” Mostly misleading but mainly false, false and false. Harris’ plan to “tax unrealized capital gains” would apply to individuals who have more than $400 million in assets; the tax would not apply to property appreciation. She would “add a death tax of 15% on whatever you inherit.” False. Our current inflation rate is “20%.” False — it’s 2.9%. Dixon actually scored (!) on one factual claim: Our national debt is $35 trillion.

I urge Ms. Dixon to apply for a Saturday Night Live staff writer position.
