Letter to the Editor: Republicans can support Marie Gluesenkamp Perez

Posted

Editor,

Recently, a commenter wondered if a registered Republican — I am registered that way — can vote for Marie Glusenkamp Perez. I am sure there are some voters like me who want fiscal sensibility while supporting socially liberal ideas. In the warped world of ideological divides, it may not be acceptable to be both fiscally mature and social sensitive. My guess is that there are voters in the middle of the conservative ranks who want balanced budgets and sensible government spending while supporting environmental and regulatory policies that curb abuses that come from lack of oversight.

I appreciate our representative as she is one of the most centrist representatives in the Congress. She believes in bipartisanship and is a member of the Blue Dog subcommittee that supports bipartisan efforts. She also supports veterans, small businesses, improvements to infrastructure, as well as allowing women to make choices for their own situations. (Marie owns a small business, lives in the country where water issues are present, has had a miscarriage and thus supportive care to keep her healthy. In other words, she’s a lot like all of us.) She has legislated in a bipartisan way. This is why this Republican supports Rep. Marie Glusenkamp Perez.
