A former Battle Ground High School teacher who was arrested in Albany, Oregon, in April was sentenced to 18 months in an Oregon prison during a court hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Kevin Weeks, 57, was arrested after being caught up in a citizen-led sting on social media.

Weeks was sentenced with first-degree online sexual corruption of a child. While second-degree online sexual corruption of a child charges involves an adult contacting a child “online for the purpose of arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of the person or another person,” according to Oregon statute, first-degree charges are issued when an adult suspect “knowingly uses an online communication to solicit a child to engage in sexual contact or sexually explicit conduct and offers or agrees to physically meet with the child.”

Weeks began serving his sentence on Oct. 16, according to Oregon Judicial Department records. He will serve 18 months in prison in the Oregon Department of Corrections system and is eligible for alternative incarceration, records state. Weeks will undergo 36 months of post-prison supervision once released, the records add.

As part of the Oct. 16 sentencing, Weeks is now a registered sex offender.
