Over 600 Hockinson School District students and family members gathered at Hockinson High School for the Launching Futures College and Career Fair on Thursday, May 16. The event was part of a broader initiative to prepare students for post-graduate careers.

Launching Futures College and Career Fair brought 94 representatives from local colleges, universities, trade schools, military and career industries to the high school. Representatives spoke with students, sharing personal insight on working within the industry, a school press release stated.

The event was part of the school district’s broader initiative to prepare students for the week-long Senior Launch Week celebration, beginning Monday, June 3, packed with college and career readiness activities leading up to Hockinson High School graduation day on Friday, June 7.

Hockinson High School and the rest of the school district have been working on various ways to prepare students for life after high school. In addition to the College and Career Fair, Hockinson High School has expanded its College in the High School course offerings, and students can now take up to 35 free university credits at the school, the press release stated.

Currently, Hockinson School District has an over 98% graduation rate, which is the highest it has been in the past 10 years, according to the press release.

Career and college exploration begins early at Hockinson Heights Elementary and Hockinson Middle schools. Career education for students includes guest speakers, field trips and other hands-on experiences.
