Editor,
I have been impressed with Marie Glusenkamp Perez’s integrity and willingness to listen to her constituents. I mention integrity because I’ve seen some inaccurate letters claiming she votes straight party line. That is simply untrue. In fact, 46% of the time, when bills supported by Joe Biden came up for a vote, she voted against them. She is ranked among the top 20 U.S. House members for working across the aisle.
I mention listening to her constituents because from the start of her tenure in the House, Marie has traveled the district, attending town hall meetings to hear directly from her constituents. During congressional recesses, Glusenkamp Perez works locally out of a mobile office, meeting with us in different locations of District 3. At these meetings, Marie and her staff have helped folks with problems with the VA, the IRS and with Social Security.
Marie wants to make government work for us — that is, people who work for a living. For instance, she understands that a lack of child care resources has made daycare so expensive it’s out of the reach of many parents and limits the options of those who can manage to pay for it. Another example: Anyone who has a tractor or smart phone made in the past several years has seen the trend of too many manufacturers to seal engines or batteries so only the original manufacturer can do repairs. This is just another way to gouge us. Marie is in favor of legislation to force manufacturers to make it possible to repair equipment you’ve purchased.
I don’t always agree with Perez, but for my money, she’s working for us, and that’s a lot these days.
