Darrell Anderson is incorrect when he states that separation of church and state was established by Jefferson. During Jefferson’s presidency, every official event was marked by beseeching God to bless the proceedings. It was not until the 1947 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Everson v. Board of Education that Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black, a former leading Klansman, wrote the majority opinion that undid the planting of faith which had survived for a century and a half.
