Letter to the Editor: MGP is one of us, deserves to be re-elected

Posted

Editor,

I am a registered Republican who supports Marie Glusenkamp Perez (MGP), a Democrat. Here are the reasons why.

She has lived her values. For example, she and her husband, Dean, opened an auto repair shop, and then they needed a small business loan to expand. She knows what that’s like, not unlike lots of us. Not surprisingly, she supports small businesses. She knows about immigration. Her father was an immigrant, not unlike most of us at some point in our family histories. She does not conflate the border situation and immigration. Rep. Glusenkamp Perez wrote a letter to encourage President Biden to do something on the border.

So, while declining to support building more border wall, she encouraged President Biden to make an executive action as the legislative route was closed off by the other political party. She wants the immigration side of the problem addressed.

MGP supports children and women. She had a miscarriage and needed abortion care. She knows how important it is to have her health care adequately supported. Since then, she has had a child and knows what it takes to work and to manage a busy family. She supports women’s rights and child care.

Marie and Dean live in the country, having built their own house, so she knows about that process, like a lot of us who have worked on building projects. As a consequence, she knows about water issues, for instance. She supports water treatment and other important water issues. She has obtained funding for infrastructure bills in the district, including the Interstate 5 bridge.

MGP ranks in the center left of the political spectrum, as close to the line where the middle right and middle left meet. As a member of the “Blue Dog Committee” with other bipartisan committee members she co-authored bills that reached both sides of the aisle. In other words, she is one of us, practical to the core. She supports what she believes and has the integrity and fairness to be considered for re-election as your representative.
